Having a team of highly skilled and experienced veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses means that when it comes to booking your pet in for surgery, our team here at Portland Vets will provide the best care possible for your pet. We know they are like family members, so we make sure we use the latest technology and techniques to ensure your pet receives advanced treatment and aftercare.
We also have a separate dog and cat ward so when it comes to their aftercare, your pet can relax and be monitored by our nursing team with as little stress as possible.
Alongside our own team we also have a fantastic visiting surgeon at our East Grinstead clinic who can provide your pets with more specialist and complex surgeries. There is more information on this on our Referrals page.
To refer your pet for surgery or to chat to our team, please contact our Edenbridge practice.
At our Edenbridge practice we offer a range of surgical treatments, including:
• Neutering
• Dental Surgeries
Our East Grinstead clinic provides a much wider range of surgical procedures. To find out more visit their Surgery information page.
Our veterinarians understand that each pet’s needs are unique so they will always take the time to discuss the options and risks of each surgery with you. This will help you to feel confident and informed throughout the entire process. Whether it’s a routine procedure or an unexpected emergency, our team will work with you to determine the best surgical options for your pet. Do not hesitate to contact our team.
At our Edenbridge branch, we have a purpose-built, modern surgical theatre along with advanced technology for all routine surgeries, helping to provide your pet the best care possible. With our separate dog and cat wards, we do everything we can to help keep your pet calm and comfortable during their stay with us.
Alongside the surgical tools and diagnostic equipment, each patient is always connected to a monitor throughout their surgery that measures their oxygen levels, carbon dioxide levels, blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate and other vitals. We routinely use intravenous catheters to administer intravenous fluids during the anaesthesia, helping to maintain your pet’s blood pressure. Our nursing team will also visually monitor your pet and immediately report any changes to the operating surgeon.
Each of our vets will be scheduled a day where they can complete these routine surgeries. If you would like to book your pet in with a vet of your choice, then please mention this to our reception team upon booking. However, some surgeries must be completed by a specific vet or our visiting orthopaedic surgeon at our East Grinstead practice. Our team will discuss this with you depending on your pet’s needs.
To find out more about our surgical facilities and how your pet will be cared for, contact our nursing team.
Before any surgery booking, your pet will have a thorough examination with the option for them to have a pre-operative blood test. This will screen for any conditions that might affect your pet’s surgery or their outcome.
During your admission appointment prior to surgery, a member of our nursing team will go through, in detail, the procedure your pet is booked for. Your pet will then be admitted to our hospital unit where they will have their own designated space in either our dog or cat ward whilst they are prepared for their operation by our nursing team. Post-surgery, they will return to that space to recover and be monitored by our highly trained team.
We understand that a successful surgery is just the first step on the road to recovery and our team will provide you with clear post-operative instructions and follow-up care for your pet. This will help to ensure a smooth and worry-free recovery.
We are committed to providing the best surgical care for your pets and we will be here to support you every step of the way. Whether it’s a routine procedure or an unexpected emergency, we are here to provide the highest level of care for your pet.
