Portland Vets Horley are getting involved in the #ItTakesTwo campaign. A joint venture between the British Veterinary Association (BVA), British Veterinary Zoological Society (BVZS) and British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA); promoting greater awareness of the health and welfare benefits for rabbits living in compatible pairs.

To promote this campaign we are asking local children to complete a fun activity sheet and enter it into a prize draw! Just download the activity sheet and drop it in to us by 31st March to be in with a chance of winning.

Companionship is extremely important for pet rabbits, they are prey animals and live in colonies in the wild, ‘safety in numbers’. This social instinct is still present in pet rabbits, and needs to be considered when providing a home for them.

Evidence shows that there is a great benefit for pet rabbits to live with other pet rabbits, this companionship has a positive effect on their health, behaviour, emotional well being and body temperature regulation. Rabbits will often seek out companionship in preference to food!

Sadly, according to the 2019 PDSA Animal Wellbeing (PAW) report, 49% of rabbits in the UK still live alone with no companionship.

We recently moved all our animals to Portland vets in Horley and East Grinstead. I’m so impressed with the service I wish I’d move sooner! We receive full written details of any animal that undergoes any testing or surgery with very clear details of their results, a phone call before and after, and also photos of the animal whilst they are recovering from surgery with updates to how their recovery is going. The vets always gets back to us within the same day and all the staff always have a smile on their faces, nothing ever seems to much to ask! I absolutely adore Charlotte at Horley, she is just amazing!!

Brought my bulldog puppy to our vets (Portland Vets) with a very obvious issue. He was losing blood from his private’s, and was very scary for my children and I.Charlotte saw us and diagnosed immediately with a urethral prolapse.She was kind, compassionate and thorough.They were all so caring and accommodating from start to finish.He had surgery arranged, followed by medications and after his surgery, they sent me a what’s app pic of our boy, offering us much reassurance and consideration for our worries for him.His post op checks were always on time, never late seeing us and thorough with their explanation of all aspects of his condition and aftercare.I highly recommend this Vet practice.I feel they loved my puppy and would bend over backwards for him. This was so important for us, considering the type of issue we come against with him, also being highly anxious about him being put to sleep, being a flat faced breed & only 5 months old.The reception staff are so welcoming, and friendly and made a fuss over my boy, who is young and a little scared to begin with.Soon enough he was calm and loving the staff, receiving his cuddles.Thank you for being excellent!

They did what they could for my little girl, but sadly she was lost to some form of aggressive cancer recently that no one could help. She was never scared to visit here, quite the opposite. Vets are expensive, period, but they handled my insurance claims well here.

The vets and whole team at portland are fantastic. We haven't been in that many times but when you do go there is always such a warm welcome from everyone, it feels personal like vets used to in the olden days!! There is a real team/family feel to the place. I only wish they could offer a 24/7 service but totally understand its not that easy, that said their out of hours service at East Grinstead is also second to none, we unfortunately had to use this service last week but it was well worth the drive for first class care for your pets. Selfishly I probably should stop recommending them as I don't want them to go so busy I can't get an appointment!!!!Fantastic vets, fantastic nurses and brilliant receptionists, thank you all!

What an amazing Vets, Portland Horley are.We run a busy Boarding Kennels and at times, dogs in out care need to see a Vet, as a Kennel owner there is nothing more worrying than looking after someone else Dog and it becoming sick and unable to see a Vet quickly. Portland Horley have never let me down, always taking the worry off my shoulders and fitting me in, and seeing to the Dogs so quickly, kindly and professionally. They are super kind and informative, and every staff member I've ever met, from receptionist to nurse is super lovely and friendly. Very reasonably priced too, not a very that you feel ripped off by. Choosing somewhere for your pets is always difficult as you have to trust the people looking f after your pets. Portland vets have been absolutely fantastic, they are 100% there for the animals and not the money. They always provide really good advice and information without trying to sell unnecessary treatme to and procedures etc. Our cat always comes first and not their pockets. Genuine staff and would recommend anyone to take their pets there

I had to take my Flo here last week, we knew she was going to be put to sleep so it was very emotional. In spite of the Covid restrictions the vet I spoke to was very patient and understanding.
